Just an Incident

She was looking at the words of the book,
Her eyes fixed, not going in any other direction,
Too bad I couldn't see her face,
I made a noise, no reaction
Coughed,
Loudly,
Again, no reaction,
I wanted to know what this stranger was finding so interesting,
Wanted to know what captivated her thoughts,
I dropped something so that she'd move,
No reaction,
She kept reading and I kept burning with curiosity,
I wondered whether she would have been interested in me,
If we ever crossed paths again and I was holding a book,
Probably not.

Family

They're wonderful.
When you find them, you feel like you found heaven on earth and you have an indescribable feeling of warmth and happiness. You go to bed knowing that someone out there is thinking about you, you know that someone will look for you in a crowd, you know that they will fight for you, they are your everything and you are their everything. They are family, your family, a family that you weren't born into but instead, it is a family that you found in a cold world. They may be your friends or your lovers or both. But they are priceless and being with them is magical and perfect.

Hope you find your family :-)

The First Year

The orientation, the welcoming, the first class, the first midterm, the first door opening attempt, the saying hi and becoming instant friends for a day with random people on campus, the first time seeing the sports complex, the discovering of great books within the walls of the library, the first time playing crap on that piano, the first time fighting banner war, the first time meeting them, the first time running after people during the club fair asking them to join the Math Club, the first time sitting on the floor outside your professor's office because you're so desperate to get your questions answered, the first time having so much caffeine in your system you feel like you're going to die, the first time leaving assignments to the last and I mean very last minute, the first time running to class, the first time going to the roof and finding out that you can see stars over there, the first surprise party in the 'Orange Room', the first awkward conversation with strangers who are now a part of you, the first time I changed so much in such a short time. My first year at AUS.

Brother

Today you turned fourteen. But I still remember the first time I ever saw you. I remember you as a baby. I remember your first day of school. I remember how much you have annoyed me before. But I also remember how your funny way of telling stories often makes my day. Brother, I am sorry sometimes I am too busy for you. Sometimes, I am too lazy to help you out with your studies. I'm sorry I ignore you sometimes because I think about myself a little too much. I'll try to make it up to you.
Have a long perfect life beautiful boy. I love you.

Beautiful Words

This is taken from The Prophet by Gibran Khalil Gibran.

"And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, "Speak to us of Children." And he said: Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself. They come through you but not from you, And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you. You may give them your love but not your thoughts. For they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls, For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams. You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you. For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday. You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth. The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far. Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness; For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable."

...

Explosions of color. Loud noises. A train. No. It's just you. Again, circles, shapes, mirrors, triangles. STOP. Words. Numbers. A river of numbers. A purple sky. Dancing eyes. Smiles passing by. A diamond tear. No evil I hear. Bright light shining. Laughter. Tears. Memories. A butterfly. A field of roses. A violet hill. And water. Endless waves. Infinite horizons. A star. Darkness. Silence.

Right Now

Right now you're reading this. But also, right now, someone is falling in love. Someone is giving birth. Someone is dying. Someone is laughing. Someone is crying. Someone is thinking. Someone is talking. Someone just had their dream come true. Someone just lost everything. Someone is throwing away extra food. Someone is starving. Someone is praying. Someone is regretting. Someone is helping. Someone is remembering.Someone is forgetting. Someone is lying. Someone is believing. Yet here you are still reading.

A little truth...

"Be yourself!" they said.
"Follow your dream!" they said.
"Don't be afraid!" they said.
And we finally grew up and wanted to be ourselves, we were told that we have to do this and that and think like this and that. We were told to do things because others do them. We saw that those individuals who are slightly different are mocked and made fun off. So we built walls around ourselves, we suppressed our thoughts and ideas in order to live up to their expectations. We wore masks and we pretended until the masks became part of our faces and we couldn't tell that they were there anymore.
And our dream? What dream? We're spooned ideas of what success is. We are made to think that we cannot contribute to the world, that none of us can really make a change and we'd be lucky to find a job. Our heads are filled with ideas which dictate that success depends on how much cash you have in the bank when in reality, it is living life the way you want.
We are told to be fearless, but then we're so brainwashed that fear becomes part of us. We are afraid of losing the approval of those whom we love. We are afraid of failing so we don't even try and we end up living a life full of regrets and what ifs.
My dear reader, the most dangerous chains are the invisible ones. They hold your spirit captive, imprison your mind, take hold of your dreams, slaughter your new ideas, suppress your brilliance and gradually take from you the most valuable thing, hope.
It is only when you become aware of those chains that you have hope at setting yourself free from them. But how do you recognize those chains?
In order to see them, you simply have to watch rather than see and listen rather than hear. Question every single thing that is considered "normal" and hopefully you will start to see the line between the truth and what you are spooned.
Good Luck!
